Western Union to close offices in Cuba after new US sanctions

US money transfer firm Western Union will close its offices in Cuba following new sanctions from Washington that prohibit working with Fincimex, the Cuban financial company run by the military, Cuban authorities announced Tuesday.
Western Union will close its 407 payment points distributed throughout the country because of these brutal provisions, according to a statement from Fincimex published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which adds that the announcement of these sanctions "amid a pandemic underscores cynicism, contempt for the Cuban people and opportunism of the US government.
