The United States Department of State issued its citizens a level 4 warning not to travel to Panama due to
covid-19 and increased crime.

covid-19 infections. in the country.
“Your risk of contracting
COVID-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA-cleared
vaccine. Before planning any international trip, review the CDS recommendations for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers,” the warning to US citizens states.
The warning points to the Gulf of Mosquitoes and parts of the Darien province as dangerous areas to travel due to high crime.
Jorge Almengor, minister in charge of Economy and Finance, said in this regard that the alerts in different countries in recent months are associated with the sanitary control of the pandemic.
“We in Panama have been as conservative as possible from the point of view of entry of tourists, residents and Panamanians once they travel and return to the country, in taking all biosecurity measures both in tests and also ensuring that they have vaccination. I think it is healthy for countries to alert their nationals to take the appropriate measures and precautions, just as we do when Panamanians leave to other jurisdictions," said Almengor.
