Tocumen SA cancels Odebrecht contract for failing to deliver Terminal 2
Tocumen SA reported that Constructora Norberto Odebrecht SA was also disqualified, which prevents its participation in tenders.
The general manager of the Tocumen International Airport , Raffoul Arab confirmed that Tocumen SA canceled the contract with Constructora Norberto Odebrecht SA, contractor of Terminal 2, due to breach of the obligations agreed for the execution of the expansion of the air terminal.
According to Tocumen SA in the last addendum, Constructora Norberto Odebrecht SA is obliged to deliver the fully completed expansion work as of September 30, 2021, however, as of September 27, 640 items were still registered pending adjustments and complements, in addition to other non-executed activities.
Tocumen SA said that the official notification has been made to ASSA Compañía de Seguros, SA about the breach of the clauses agreed with the contractor to guarantee the completion of the work through the execution of the compliance bond and protect the best interests of the State.
Constructora Norberto Odebrecht SA was also disqualified for breach of contract, which prevents its participation in tenders and contracting with the Panamanian State, in compliance with Law 22 of 2006, which regulates public procurement.
The air terminal assured that it will guarantee the operation and start-up of the new Terminal 2, including all the technological, electrical, security, baggage and operational systems, among others.
