Three men sentenced to more than 8 years in prison for robbery in Betania
Three men were sentenced to more than eight years in prison for the crime of aggravated robbery to the detriment of a family after entering a residence located in Altos de Betania, Panama City.
According to the Public Ministry (MP), Ángel Hinojosa Almanza was sentenced to 108 months (9 years) in prison for the crimes of aggravated robbery and illegal possession of a firearm; while Luis Pérez Garrido and Davis Valencia Herrera, to 96 months (8 years) in prison for the crime of aggravated robbery; As an accessory penalty, they were banned from carrying firearms for 60 months (5 years), once the main sentence had been served.
At the hearing, the prosecutor Verónica Checa Del Cid, from the Early Decision and Litigation Section, presented the legalization of the arrest, formulation of the imputation of charges and validation of the sentence agreement, all admitted by the Judge of Guarantees.
The event that occurred on January 28, 2021, occurred when the sentenced persons entered the residence and, through intimidation, using a firearm, deprived one of the victims of liberty, hitting her on various parts of the body.
They seized cash, goods and valuables, then fled; being later apprehended by members of the National Police, in possession of the money and stolen goods, the MP explained in a statement.
Preliminary investigations were carried out by the Primary Care Section of the Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office in conjunction with the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) and the National Police.
