The first case of Zika detected in Chiriquí

The Aedes aegypti mosquito is the main mean of transmission of the Zika viral disease.
The health authorities managed to detect the first positive case of Zika in the province of Chiriquí in 2021.

This case was found in the Quiteño community, in the David district, and according to what was known, it is a patient of approximately 60 years of age.

The authorities continue to carry out investigations to determine the origin of the case.

"We are investigating to see where he was and where he came from, because he was hospitalized but has already left the hospital," said Patricio Camareno, from the Department of Vector Control of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

He reiterated that Zika, which is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, represents a greater risk for pregnant women because it can affect the baby.

It is worth mentioning that in addition, in the province of Chiriquí there are 198 cases of classic dengue to date.
