The effective reproductive number of COVID-19 in Panama increases to 1.11
The epidemiological report presented this Tuesday, November 17 by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), reflects that the effective reproductive number or Rt of COVID-19 in Panama rose to 1.11.
The effective reproductive number has unfortunately increased this week to 1.11 compared to the previous week, which was 1.07 at the country level ; Furthermore, it remains above 1 in the regions of Coclé, Panama East, Herrera, Panama North, Los Santos, San Miguelito, Colón; while the rest of the regions are below 1, explained Dr. Lourdes Moreno, head of epidemiology at the Ministry of Health.
He explained that by township, those that maintain a TR above 1 are: Curundú, Don Bosco, Parque Lefevre, San Francisco (Panama), Pueblo Nuevo, Tocumen, December 24, Veracruz, Juan Díaz (Panama), Santa Clara ( Panama), Betania, Ancón, Bella Vista (Panama), El Arado, Puerto Caimito, Playa Leona, Juan Demostenes Arosemena, Narganá, San Miguelito, Victoriano Lorenzo, Amelia Denis De Icaza, Mateo Iturralde, Belisario Frías, and Omar Torrijos.
He also mentioned the townships of Coclé del Norte, Cristóbal, Ernesto Córdoba Campos, Las Cumbres, Chilibre, Alcalde Días, Tortí, Pacora, La Mesa, Nuevo Santiago, Chitré, Monagrillo, Llano Bonito, Cañaveral, Penonomé, La Villa de Los Santos , Baco, Los Algarrobos (Chiriquí), Alto Boquete, Puerto Armuelles, David Sur, and La Concepción.
He added that there has been an increase in cases of 38.6% compared to the week before and after the lifting of mobility restrictions, as well as an increase in the number of deaths with an average of approximately 10 deaths per day.
It should be remembered that the indicators established by the Government to maintain the reopening in the midst of the pandemic are: RT equal to or less than 1; lethality less than 3%, more than 20% of beds in regular ward and more than 15% in wards for critical patients.
