The effective reproduction number of COVID-19 in Panama increases to 0.99

The effective reproduction number or Rt of COVID-19 in Panama is currently at 0.99, as revealed for this Tuesday, March 2, 2021, the epidemiological report presented by the Ministry of Health (Minsa).
"This week the number of effective reproduction has slightly increased, to 0.99. However if we break it down by region, we see that at this moment those that contribute to this slight increase are the Guna Yala Comarca through an outbreak that started in the town of Narganá, where we the local health team has already taken control. Also in the province of Los Santos the Rt is above 1.44 which is also through an outbreak, and all the measures have been taken. In Bocas del Toro, which is at 1.3; and Coclé, at 1.1, are due to what we have seen for the previous two weeks," explained Dr. Leonardo Labrador, national chief of epidemiology of the Minsa.

He added that in the other health regions the effective reproduction number or Rt remains below one, stabilizing the national average of 0.99.

On the other hand, Labrador highlighted that a downward trend is observed both in the number of positive cases, in the number of hospitalized patients, as well as in the number of deaths.
