Special evaluation commission delivers a report to Cortizo on the 77 aspiring Supreme Court magistrates

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, received on the afternoon of this Monday, July 26, the report of the members of the Special Commission for Evaluating the State Pact for Justice of the aspiring magistrates and substitute magistrates for the Supreme Court of Justice.
During the evaluation period, 79 candidates were presented, however, during the process, two withdrew, so in the end the documentation referring to 77 was delivered to Cortizo.

Cortizo, upon receiving the documents and the commission's report, recalled that they will go through a psychometric evaluation process.

In addition, a series of interviews will be carried out with the candidates that the president considers. "I'm sure they will agree with the suggestions in your report," Cortizo said.

Juan Carlos Araúz, one of the members of the commission and president of the National Bar Association, for his part, explained that among the documents delivered is a section on special considerations, where the so-called short list will be included.

He added that in the aforementioned list is the assessment of a certain number of applicants for the civil court and for the contentious-administrative court of the Supreme Court, which at the discretion of the commissioners meet the necessary conditions.

The commission was made up of the Attorney General for the Administration, Rigoberto González , who chaired it, and a representative of the Executive, Judicial and Legislative bodies.

In addition to a delegate from the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation; the ombudsman and a representative of the deans of the faculties of rights of the different accredited universities with more than 15 years of service to the country, which was chosen by the Council of Rectors.

It was also made up of a representative of the National Bar Association, of the Panamanian Association of Magistrates and Judges, of the Citizen Alliance for Justice, of the labor sector chosen by consensus of organized labor groups, coordinated by the National Council of Organized Workers and a delegate of the National Council of Private Enterprise.

And as an observer and guarantor of the decisions that were made, a representative of the Ecumenical Committee participated.
