Second arrest made in the Colon massacre case

The authorities reported on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, the apprehension of a second person who is suspected to be involved in the case of the massacre of seven young people from the Valle Verde community in the township of Cristóbal in Colón.
This person is expected to be brought before a judge of guarantees, in the next few hours.

The second suspect was handed over to the authorities by a family member. He lives in the Valle Verde sector, same as the victims.

On July 17, in the wooded area of ​​José Domingo Espinar, seven young people, between 15 and 23 years of age, were found dead, a fact that caused shook the country.

Meanwhile, a capture operation has been on-going to find the whereabouts of a third party involved in this massacre.

For this case, an 18-year-old young man, who was detained in the hard-to-reach community of Tagua, in the Achiote township on the Costa Abajo de Colón, is being held in Nueva Esperanza de Arco Iris prison in Colón.

Since the day of his arrest, his lawyer has said that he was used as a "scape goat" and that the description of the spoken portrait of the witnesses is not related to his client.

On Friday, July 17, 13 young residents of the Valle Verde community in the township of Cristóbal left in a group to spend time in Lake Gatún.

Only six returned from the group. The bodies (of four women and three men) were found by their relatives on the morning of Saturday, July 18.
