Santo Tomás Hospital is running out of beds for Covid-19 patients

Due to the increase in cases of Covid-19 in Panama and the increase in the number of patients at the Santo Tomás Hospital (one of the biggest hospitals in Panama to treat Covid-19 patients), the entity made the decision to suspend transfers from other institutions.
The medical director Elías García Mayorca, in a circular to the specialists, reported that the increase in patients is leading to the limited availability of beds at the Santo Tomás Hospital, the largest hospital in Panama City.

"In the event that the patient requires management of only one that is offered by our institution, the head of the department should be consulted during regular hours and the medical director in charge during shifts," says the Santo Tomás Hospital circular.

The note dated December 10 establishes that uninsured patients are exempted from the Pre-Hospital System of the Metropolitan Region and Hotels of the Metropolitan Region.

Added to that, the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, assured that "completely complicated days and weeks are coming."

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, assured that if things do not improve new measures would be taken, they are currently being evaluated, they must be consulted. It is not easy, they are difficult decisions.

For Thursday, December 10, in Panama there are 157,888 recovered patients, 2,447 new positive cases, for a cumulative total of 185,424.

To date, 13,299 tests have been applied, for a positivity percentage of 18.4% and 23 new deaths have been registered, totaling 3,287 accumulated and a lethality of 1.8%.

The Health authorities made the decision of a new curfew for the province of Panama from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am from Tuesday, December 8.
This prohibition includes the sale of liquor through the delivery service.

The country is also preparing the adaptation of four cold rooms and the purchase of freezers for the storage of vaccines against covid-19, which could be arriving in the second half of February or the first of March 2021.

The prohibition of parties, celebrations or meetings that concentrate a large number of people in houses or private homes, housing complexes or towers, property subject or not to the Horizontal Property Regime and its common or social areas, including hotels, residential complexes, is maintained. beach or country complexes that are private.
