Red alert declared in Bocas del Toro and a yellow alert in other regions of the country

The province of Bocas del Toro is one of the most affected by the rains in recent hours.
After the intense rains that have been registered since Friday and this Saturday, the National Civil Protection System ( Sinaproc ) declared a Red Alert (The emergency event is happening and has had an impact on a specific community, region or country) for the province of Bocas del Toro from at 3:00 pm on July 24.

"Due to the continuation of the rains in the last 24 hours and the instability in the atmospheric conditions, the increase in rainfall for the next few hours is expected from 30 to 100 mm or liters of water per m2 and that could increase in the following hours, according to reports from the satellite meteorological stations of the Electric Transmission Company SA (Etesa)," Sinaproc said in a press release.

According to the Hydrometeorology forecasts, unstable conditions will continue due to the low pressure systems and the incursion of tropical waves 19, 20 and 21 and the activation of the Convergence Zone over the country.

Faced with this situation, the entity communicates that the provinces of Chiriquí, Veraguas, Herrera, Los Santos, Colón, Coclé and the Ngábe Bugle region are declared in Yellow Alert (which implies that the level of risk increases and the emergency is imminent) before the possible to the increase of the rains during the following days with a greater probability to register floods and landslides.

While for the provinces of Panama, Panama Oeste, Darién and the Comarca Guna Yala and Emberá Wounaan they are declared in Preventive Green Alert (warning of prevention when there is a threat that may affect the country) due to the effects of rainy events already registered.

Preliminarily, Sinaproc reported that more than 5,000 people were affected by the rains nationwide.
