Rain causes treefalls and power cuts in different parts of Panama

The electricity distribution company ENSA de Panamá and Naturgy reported that there are service interruptions in different sectors.

The heavy rains with gusts of wind, which were registered over the provinces of Panama and Panama Oeste this Sunday, left in its wake fallen trees, detachment of roofs, landslides, floods and interruptions in the supply of electricity.

According to the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) reported in Cerro Silvestre, First Street of the Arraiján district, the rains left damage to a house causing loss of belongings.

The National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) detailed the fall of trees on houses and some roads left damages in Las Garzas, Pacora, Tocumen, Pedregal (Golden Rana and Villalobo), Las Mañanitas (La Pagoda) in East Panama.

Likewise, fallen trees are reported in Las Cumbres (Las Lajas and Villa Grecia) and Alcade Díaz.

Impacts were also seen in the sectors of Mano de Piedra, Santa Librada and in the Arnulfo Arias Madrid district of the San Miguelito district. In Panama Oeste in La Mitra de La Chorrera and in Burunga in the district of Arraiján.

Regarding landslides, three (3) cases were reported in the district of Arraiján: neighborhood Two thousand, Brisas de Arraiján and in the sector 2 de Mayo.

Meanwhile, two (2) structural collapses were recorded in: Pedregal, Villa Lobos and in the 7 de Septiembre neighborhood of the Arraiján district in Panama Oeste.

COEN reported flooding in Burunga, Arraiján on the main street and in Loma Bonita, Vista Alegre in Panama Oeste.

According to preliminary figures from Sinaproc, 17 trees fell on homes, one (1) on the road, 4 landslides, 2 structural collapse, 3 floods

The entity warns that the rains will continue in the coming days; meanwhile, in the Pacific and the Panamanian Caribbean there will be moderate waves and rough seas.

In addition, the electricity distribution company ENSA of Panama reported that "due to heavy rains and electrical storms there are supply interruptions in different sectors", in which they are working to solve incidents in their concession area.

Meanwhile, the electricity company Naturgy communicated to its clients in Panama Oeste, that as a result of the storm, they maintain “damages in sectors of Arraiján, Juan Demostenes Arosemena, Burunga, Vista Alegre, part of La Chorrera, Herrera, El Coco, Mendoza, Barrio Columbus and Guadalupe ”.

Sinaproc recommendations before the rains:

- If it is raining, avoid driving at high speeds.
- Stay away from trees, power lines, and metal materials.
- Do not try to cross rivers, streams, or canals.
