The different protected areas in the province of Chiriquí will be reopened to the public on Sundays starting this June 27, this after the lifting of total quarantine.

The regional director of the Ministry of the Environment (MiAmbiente) in Chiriquí, Krislly Quintero, calls on citizens who visit these protected areas to maintain biosecurity measures, such as taking temperatures and physical distancing.

"In advance they have to register or request a quota to enter, we ask the population to be cautious when visiting these areas, it is important not to throw away garbage or masks, since we have encountered these situations along the way to the Volcano Barú as well as along the PILA ”, indicated Quintero.

Reopening of protected areas

Barú Volcano National Park (PNVB)

MiAmbiente details that the Barú Volcano National Park remains with enabled access, from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm; and emphasizes that after that time no tourist will be able to access the top, by any of the trails.

To enter, visitors must have a reservation of quota managed through rcastillo@miambiente.gob.pa or by calling 500-0922.

He adds that 75 tourists and 15 vehicles can enter through the T-Shirt Control Post (Boquete district), while 35 people can enter the Los Llanos Control Post (Tierras Altas district).

La Amistad International Park (PILA)

In the La Amistad International Park, 35 tourists can enter the Panama Verde trail from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Gulf of Chiriquí National Marine Park and Wildlife Refuge

The Ministry of Environment points out that the Gulf of Chiriquí National Marine Park (PNMGCh) and the Playa La Barqueta Agrícola Wildlife Refuge also apply the respective biosecurity regulations

On the other hand, MiAmbiente clarifies that these areas will remain open as long as biosafety regulations are met and there is no alert for bad weather.

“MiAmbiente is constantly monitoring the weather conditions and in communication with the security forces, that if an alert arises due to adverse events, access to the protected areas is suspended; this with the aim of safeguarding the life and integrity of tourists and park rangers ”, the entity points out.
