Prosecutor requests call to trial for 9 people for massacre in El Terrón
The nine defendants are residents of El Terrón and were members of a religious sect called by them "Church of God" (Iglesia de Dios).
The Bocas del Toro Regional Prosecutor's Office requested the call to trial for nine people investigated for the alleged commission of the crimes of homicide, femicide and deprivation of liberty, linked to an alleged religious sect that operated in the community of El Terrón, Santa Catalina, Ngäbe Buglé region.
On August 25, 2020, a Judge of Guarantees raised the investigations for this fact to a complex cause, after considering that there are seven victims, nine indicted persons (all with a precautionary measure of provisional detention), in addition to three crimes under investigation: homicide, femicide and deprivation of liberty.
According to the investigations, the defendants are residents of El Terrón and were members of a religious sect called "Church of God."
This investigation originated in January 2020, when seven corpses, six minors (3 boys and 3 girls of 1, 3, 9, 9, 11 and 17 years old) were located inside a common grave; and a 32-year-old pregnant woman.
By January 16 of that same year, with the intervention of the authorities, some 15 people who were tied up in another rite were rescued.
