President Cortizo participated in a UN virtual event on sustainable development goals

Panamanian President Laurentino Cortizo is expected to participate in the ordinary UN Assembly that will take place in New York on Tuesday.
President Laurentino Cortizo participated this Monday in a virtual event of the United Nations ( UN ) in New York on the goals of sustainable development as a preamble to what will be the seventy-sixth regular session of the General Assembly of this organism.

At this event, Cortizo, who traveled to New York City on Monday, shared experiences and contributions in relation to the Strategic Plan that our Government executes in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The Panamanian president highlighted, through a video that was uploaded to the Twitter account, that last year in the midst of the pandemic he presented the Voluntary National Report to the UN with the result of the actions that the Panamanian State had achieved in each one of the global objectives related to the SDGs, ensuring that he would continue during his government to promote opportunity and inclusion as essential factors to combat poverty and inequality, in addition to strengthening democracy and expanding spaces for citizen participation on the road to development to build a sustainable and inclusive future.

"As a sign of this commitment, our government called the country to a national dialogue, with the support of the United Nations, in order to identify the issues of greatest importance to the population and receive their proposals for solutions to make consensus decisions that last longer. It is expected that this Tuesday the 21st President Cortizo will participate in the opening ceremony of the debate of the UN Ordinary Assembly, and together with a Panamanian delegation that accompanies him, the president will meet with a group of investors and will also sign the memorandum of understanding with Major League Baseball (MLB) to promote the sport in Latin America, which includes the establishment of a High Performance Baseball Center for the development of talents in Panama Oeste. This agreement will be signed with Commissioner Robert Manfred, with the presence of Panamanian baseball glory Mariano Rivera as an honorary witness.
