President Cortizo orders immediate dismissal of Guna Yala Governor for drug case
After it was confirmed that in the seizure of 79 drug packages in the Las Garzas sector, in East Panama, among the two apprehended in this police action was the Governor of Guna Yala, Erick Iván Martelo Robinson, the president of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo reported that he requested the Minister of Government Janaina Tewaney the immediate dismissal of the official.
The president in a tweet pointed out that there will be zero tolerance for acts of corruption and that they violate the ethics to which every official must be subject to.
The National Police together with the Public Ministry carried out in the early hours of this Tuesday the inspection of the vehicle and the Ion-Scan test during which 79 drug packages was detected under the driver's seat.
The police report indicates that at the time of the review Martelo Robinson identified himself as Governor.
It is also detailed that a hydraulic arm was found at the rear of the vehicle.
The two arrested for this act were placed under the orders of the competent authorities.
