Police will initiate investigation after a video shows officers beating a citizen

According to the Police, the man reacted in an unconscionable way, yelled expletives at the officers, and tried to attack them with an HDMI cable, with a door lock.

The National Police of Panama asked the Directorate of Professional Responsibility to initiate an investigation after the dissemination of a video that shows two officers beating a man with a stick in the El Chorrillo sector.

The entity indicated that the arrest of the citizen, "who was wandering in a suspicious attitude", occurred after residents of the place denounced that the man had tried to remove the cover of the sewer located on Avenue A, on several occasions.

"When the police units request their personal identity documents, the citizen reacts in an uncompromising manner, shouting expletives against the police units, trying to attack them with an HDMI cable, with a door lock," indicates the National Police through a statement.

The Police clarified that Law 18 of the entity allows the use of the police rod, however "actions that threaten peace and citizen security will not be tolerated."

This video has caused a furor on social networks, because it only shows the moment when the authorities repeatedly hit the citizen, and no aggressive reaction is seen.
