Panama reports 83,855 cases of Covid-19 and 1,844 deaths; this weekend still total quarantine

To date, 83,855 accumulated cases of Covid-19 are reported and 1,844 people have died from this disease, according to the epidemiological report of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Thursday, August 20, 2020.

In the last 24 hours there have been 842 new cases and 17 deaths, says a statement from the ministry.

Most cases are in patients aged 20 to 59 years (61,083) and the highest number of deaths occurs in the age group 60 to 79 years (861), followed by those aged 80 or over (460), according to statistics of the Minsa.

The recovered patients are 59,174 and the active cases, 22,837.

In the last 24 hours, 5,068 new tests have been applied. It is the second day, in which more than 5,000 tests are carried out to detect Covid-19.

The total of tests applied, since last March when the first case of the new coronavirus was registered in the country, is 287,300.

21,183 people remain in home isolation and of these 20,712 are at home and 471 are held in so-called hospital hotels.

There are 1,654 hospitalized people, of which 1,500 are in the ward and 154 in intensive care units.

Quarantine from Friday at 7:00 pm

Minsa reminded that this weekend the total quarantine is still in place in the provinces in which the measure was currently applied, from 7:00 pm on Friday to 5:00 am on Monday.

The easing of quarantine will begin on Monday, August 24, which will allow women to leave their homes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 5:00 am to 6:45 pm. Men will have the same hours on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
