Panama reaches 87,485 COVID-19 infections and 1,906 deaths

The Ministry of Health of Panama (Minsa) reported that for this Monday, August 24, 585 new coronavirus infections are registered, with which the total number of cases in the country rises to 87,485.
In addition, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 increased to 1,906, of which 14 correspond to new deaths, with a case fatality rate of 2.2%.

The Minsa adds that to date some 62,185 people have recovered, while 23,394 cases remain active.

On the other hand, it indicates that 21,735 remain in isolation, of which 21,237 are at home and 498 in hotels, 1,659 are hospitalized in the ward and there are 153 patients in the intensive care unit.

In the last 24 hours, 3,405 tests were carried out to detect COVID-19 with a positivity percentage of 17.2%. To date, a total of 308,435 tests have been carried out to detect COVID-19, of which 217,225 were negative and Panama has managed to have 72,090 tests per million inhabitants.

Regarding the number of cases according to age group, it indicates that there are 11,964 cases in those under 20 years of age; from 20 to 39, 36,493 cases were registered; from 40 to 59 there are 26,891; from 60 to 79 they count 9,869; and in those over 80 there are 2,268 cases.

In relation to the number of deaths according to age group, he pointed out that 19 deaths are registered in those under 20; from 20 to 39 they count 100; from 40 to 59 there are 421; From 60 to 79, 896 are registered and in those over 80 there are 470 deaths.
