The mayor of Panama, José Luis Fábrega, was fined this Saturday, August 1, for failing to comply with the total quarantine that must be met during the weekend due to the coronavirus pandemic.
After photos of the official on a beach in Coronado circulated on social networks when he was approached by members of Justice of the Peace and the National Police, the mayor published on his Instagram account that he was in front of his house when he attended the instructions of the authorities.
I want to clarify that I am the first to demand compliance with the rules and health controls to reduce the number of infections by
Covid-19. Having been at the beach, I was also fined and responsibly paid the fines, wrote Fábrega.
I appreciate the courtesy and good treatment which both the Justice of the Peace and the National Police conducted themselves, who are on the front line to control this pandemic. I offer the appropriate apologies for this situation. I commit myself and I invite everyone to strictly follow the measures imposed by the Ministry of Health, the statement continued.
The Ministry of Health reported that the mayor is sanctioned with two fines; one imposed by the Justice of Peace and the other by the Ministry of Health.
