Panama has detected 9 cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19

"Today we have been informed that we have 8 more cases of the Delta variant nationwide," said the Minister of Health, Luis Sucre.
The Minister of Health, Luis Sucre, reported this Tuesday that a total of 9 community cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 have been detected in Panama .

He explained that these cases were detected through genomic sequencing carried out by the Gorgas Institute.

"At the country level there are already other provinces where we have found new cases of this strain ... today we have been reported that we have 8 more cases of the Delta variant at the national level, that if we add it to the case that we had already been diagnosed with, we have 9 cases, of these 9 cases, 3 are related to trips abroad and 6 that are already Delta cases at the community level, ”Sucre said.

However, the Health Minister did not detail in which other regions of the country the new cases have been detected.

He added that after detecting the first case in the province of Chiriquí, they immediately proceeded to reinforce the traceability protocols, epidemiological surveillance and genomic sequencing, in conjunction with Gorgas.
