Over 895,000 students in Panama start the 2021 school year remotely

More than 895 thousand students in Panama take distance classes this Monday, March 1, 2021, as established in the school calendar.
The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, described this school year as a new challenge, and urged students, teachers and families to have will and enthusiasm in teaching and learning tasks.

"Let's continue taking care of ourselves, hoping to finish the school year with students and teachers in the classrooms," he said via Twitter.

He also thanked the teachers for "their monumental effort they make to fulfill their mission and teaching vocation."

"The effort they have made during these difficult times has not been in vain, it leaves them better prepared for the noble task of training our young people," said Cortizo.

The Ministry of Education previously indicated that, periodically, the epidemiological conditions of each educational region will be evaluated with the Ministry of Health to assess the transition to other modalities, in the second and third trimesters.

During the 2020 school year, some 10,000 students had no contact with their educational centers, according to the Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, who encouraged young people to be disciplined and responsible with education.

While 36,622 young people successfully completed their high school studies in the midst of the pandemic through the virtual modality.

The first quarter of classes will end on Friday, June 4.
