Acclaimed author Salman Rushdie has revealed that he is currently working on a book about the knife attack that took place on him last year in New York.

In a pre-recorded appearance at the Hay Literary Festival, Rushdie said that he is trying to write a book about the attack and its implications, which he described as "relatively short." Despite the fact that writing the book may not be easy, Rushdie stated that it is something that he needs to do in order to move on from the incident.

He added that he cannot start working on a new novel that has nothing to do with the attack.

Rushdie also revealed that he is in good health and expressed gratitude for the positive response to his most recent work, 'Victory City.' He stated that he never takes anything for granted, and it means a lot to him that most people seem to like the book.

On August 12, 2022, Rushdie was giving a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in New York when he was attacked by a man who reached the stage and stabbed and punched him several times.

Rushdie lost sight in one eye and the use of one hand following the attack and spent approximately two months in the hospital.

The attacker, Hadi Matar, is being held without bail in the Chautauqua County Jail in the village of Mayville.

He has been charged with second-degree attempted murder and could face a lengthy prison sentence after the trial is over.
