New law extends the scope of maternal jurisdiction to the father
The new legislation also grants 15 days of anticipated vacation to the father in the event of the mother's death.
The president of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, sanctioned the law that extends the scope of the maternal jurisdiction to the father.
"When the pregnant woman does not have a formal job, the father will enjoy the scope of the jurisdiction and may not be fired from his public or private job for the months that the gestation lasts, and after delivery, for a term of one year," except in special cases ”, establishes the new law.
The new legislation also grants 15 days of anticipated vacation to the father in the event of the mother's death, after complying with the mourning established by law.
To be entitled to this extension of the maternity jurisdiction, the father must present the child's birth certificate that certifies him as the father of the minor, among other documents.
This norm was born through Bill 548, which was approved in the third debate by the Plenary of the National Assembly last April.
