MP begins investigation for alleged abuse of minors in Kankintú
The investigation arises from the alleged crime against the legal and family order to the detriment of 14 minors and several adults.
The Public Ministry (MP) of Panama initiated an investigation for the alleged crime against the legal and family order to the detriment of 14 minors and several adults, who were allegedly victims of a religious sect in the Ngäbe Buglé Comarca.
These are minors who are victims of possible physical and emotional abuse, health, nutrition and deprivation of liberty, including possible trafficking.
According to the Public Ministry (MP), the health authorities provided medical attention to the victims from the Calante district, Ngäbe Buglé Comarca.
In this case, the Ombudsman's Office requested, as a priority, the pertinent investigations be carried out in any situation that puts minors at risk in the Kankintú district.
In recent years, several people have lost their lives, and others have been mistreated, abused and deprived of their liberty, during their participation in these religious groups.
