More than 570 houses affected by floods and landslides
The Minister of Housing and Land Management, Rogelio Paredes , announced that some 578 houses have been affected nationwide after floods. It is estimated that some 300 residences will need to be built new.
He explained that from the fund destined for the contingency of the Environmental Emergency declared in the provinces most affected by the collateral effects of hurricanes Eta and Iota , the budget should come out for the purchase of land to relocate the affected families.
It is about $100 million that must be distributed to serve Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, Coclé, Herrera, Panama, Panama Oeste, Veraguas and the Comarca Ngäbe Buglé. This sum, according to statements by the President of the Republic of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, could increase.
The Vice President of the Republic, José Gabriel Carrizo, pointed out that there is a team in charge of assisting and responding to those affected.
This was reported during a tour of the Barú district, one of the areas most affected by floods and landslides.
