Moment Joe Biden stops to pick dandelion for first lady Jill

Joe Biden marked his 100th day as president on Thursday – but he made sure the day was not all about him.

During the walk across the White House lawn to board Marine One for Georgia, the president stopped momentarily and bent down to pick a dandelion for his wife, First Lady Jill Biden. Jill paused to watch her husband and accepted the thoughtful gesture.

Jill, 69, wore a light blue dress with a leaf and fruit print and a matching face mask and yellow heels. The president, 78, wore a navy suit and black mask.

Joe has been vocal about his feelings for his wife. In August, he told CBS Sunday Morning: ‘I adore her. I’m gonna sound so stupid – I was saying the other day, when she comes down the steps and I look at her, my heart still skips a beat.’

The pair on Thursday morning were en route to Plains, Georgia, to meet former President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, who did not attend the inauguration due to the pandemic.

Afterward, the Bidens were scheduled to attend a drive-in rally in Atlanta, Georgia, where the president was expected to tout his administration’s accomplishments and provide a look ahead at his legislative agenda.

The Bidens’ busy schedule comes a day after the president addressed a joint session of Congress in which he detailed his administration’s progress in fighting the coronavirus and made a case for massive new programs he is proposing.

Jill was not the only woman the president acknowledged in a special way in a less than 24-hour time frame. On Wednesday night, the president pointed out the moment that Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, two women, sat behind the dais in Congress for the first time in American history.

‘Madam Speaker. Madam Vice President. No president has ever said those words from this podium,’ he said as lawmakers clapped. ‘No president has ever said those words, and it’s about time, and it’s about time.’
