After the reports of adverse side effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 , the Minister of Health of Panama, Luis Francisco Sucre, said that "we must wait for the results of the scientific studies of this vaccine," to determine if it remains in the immunization plan or not.
Normally when events like these happen, the obvious course of action to suspend further use of the
vaccine from the same company
AstraZeneca (in this case). But we have information that they have identified some batches that are related to events in the specific European countries where the issued occurred, he said.
Sucre added that the
AstraZeneca company must also do its part and clarify whether or not there is a problem with its
vaccine.
Serious allergies such as anaphylaxis have been identified among the possible side effects of the
AstraZeneca vaccine; In addition, possible thrombotic events of the cerebral veins (clots) are being studied.
Due to these reports, countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Denmark, Thailand, the Netherlands, Ireland, Norway, Iceland and Bulgaria suspended immunization with this
vaccine preventively.
While Austria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Luxembourg recalled a specific batch of the
vaccine.
