The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, detailed this Sunday, February 7, that Panama has requested a total of 8,513,000 vaccines against Covid-19 from pharmaceutical companies and Russia.
Sucre recalled that Panama asked the
Covax portfolio for 1,000,121 doses, while the company
Pfizer 3 million.
Meanwhile, the
AstraZeneca group was ordered 1,920,000
vaccines and
Johnson &
Johnson 300,000 doses.
In addition, the request made to Russia for 3 million Sputnik V
vaccines has the sole intention of reinforcing the vaccination process in the country.
However, the official clarified that it is waiting for the Russian
vaccine to be certified by regulatory bodies.
But just as it was done with the other pharmaceutical companies, the process of conversations takes place in parallel, "for when the authorizations are obtained and Panama has finished the negotiations."
According to
Sucre, the government's intention is to vaccinate 80% of the population in order "to guarantee the highest coverage throughout the country."
He added that currently in the world only "43 countries have started their vaccination process" and Panama is within that group.
