Minister Sucre on medical certifications: asks to re-evaluate the measure and to repeal controversial resolution

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre asked the Inter-Institutional Council for Basic Certification of Medicine (CICBM) to reconsider and repeal Resolution 1 of March 3, 2021 , which temporarily lowers the minimum passing score for the certification exam for basic medicine.
"Please, return to the previous score," said Sucre, regarding the decision made by said commission and which is found in Resolution No. 1 of March 3, 2021, published in the Official Gazette.

Regarding a possible repeal of the aforementioned resolution, Sucre replied that that depends on the commission. However, he pointed out that he hopes that this Tuesday the seven members that make up the commission meet, re-evaluate this and repeal the resolution.

It will be repealed soon, said the ruler Laurentino Cortizo on Tuesday, after receiving the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at the Belisario Porras school.

In fact, yesterday, Monday, Cortizo tweeted the following message: The basic certification exam in medicine must be of the highest qualification, as was always established, any other measure is a setback. The medical schools have had, have and will have my full support.

Sucre expressed that he has had conversations with the chief executive and he does not agree with the lowering of the score. They have been asking some questions and yesterday met with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the Rector of the University of Panama and the president of the Inter-institutional Certification Council and some aspects were considered".

Regarding the alleged pressure that the rector of the Faculty of Medicine, Enrique Mendoza, received from the Minsa to approve the resolution, Sucre stated that no one is pressuring the Dean, as well as my consideration of the parties that are part of the Council are teachers with a lot of credibility and a very good reputation, no one pressures these gentlemen.

The exam prepared by the National Board of Medical Examiners of the United States, is done in person. Participants must obtain the score established as approval by the CICBM to request authorization from the Technical Health Council to present themselves as applicants for the medical internship positions of the Ministry of Health and the Social Security Fund.
