Minister of Health awaits report on Mayor of Colón, warns that "no one is above the law"
The head of the Ministry of Health of Panama, Luis Sucre, referred this Monday to the breach of the sanitary regulations and restrictions established by the mayor of the province of Colón, Alex Lee, indicating that he is currently awaiting the corresponding report.
He warned that "no one is above the law" and sanctions will be applied where applicable, while explaining that it is up to the regional directors to investigate people who fail to comply with the regulations issued by the Ministry of Health and sanction them.
I have always said it and the President has said it, nobody is above the law, the investigations will be carried out and we are going to sanction them according to what corresponds, the director of the Colón region has to do the investigation, Sucre stressed.
He added that currently there are no health fences and what we have are surveillance posts, even so he made a request to the director of the Colón region and the director of the Coclé region to carry out the pertinent investigation and proceed if there is any type of administrative failure or that they have broken some of the rules on health or social distancing, they have to comply as directors of the regions.
Meanwhile, President Laurentino Cortizo, stated that cases of officials who fail to comply with the health measures established against COVID-19, it is a matter for the Ministry to analyze and define the sanctions.
The mayor of Colón Alex Lee admitted to having traveled the past weekend to a beach house with his family, while the mobility measures established by the Ministry of Health of Panama for the COVID-19 pandemic were still in force.
On the other hand, Sucre called on citizens to take care of themselves and their families, as well as young people to protect the elderly and try to avoid bringing the virus home.
