MiAmbiente investigates scope of mineral material spill in Donoso
According to MiAmbiente, the company Minera Panamá reported a break in the weld joint of the pipe that transports process water to tailings.
The Ministry of the Environment ( MiAmbiente ) reported that it has initiated an investigation to determine the scope of a mineral material spill in the Donoso region, where Minera Panama operates.
According to MiAmbiente, the company Minera Panama sent a report on the break in the weld joint of the pipe that transports process water to tailings that occurred on July 14.
According to the report, the release of the material was in the direction of the tailings tank, before the Chimeme creek, however by drainage a quantity went to this source. A barrier was installed to contain any spill.
Chiara Ramos, regional director of MiAmbiente in Coclé said that a specific update has been requested from the company Minera Panama on the report presented, contact has been maintained with community members and a technical team has been sent to the area, in order to corroborate the data of what happened and the effectiveness of the corrective measures developed by the company, according to its Emergency Plan.
MiAmbiente indicated that after this process it will take the appropriate measures.
