Man linked to youth shelter case found guilty, AG asks for more than 20 years in prison
A guilty verdict was issued against a 54-year-old man, accused of aggravated libidinal acts and corruption of minors, in the investigation that is being carried out into the shelters case.
The event occurred in 2018, in a shelter for minors located in the province of Colón.
The Attorney General's Office (Ministerio Público) asked that he be punished with six years in prison for the crime of aggravated libidinous acts and fifteen years for the crime of corruption of minors.
The guilty verdict was based on the analysis of eight forms of evidence, including testimonials, expert witnesses and documentaries presented by the Public Ministry and the intervention with a cross-examination by the Public Defender, María Espada.
The judges unanimously concluded the guilt of the accused, given the existence of elements that made them participate in the commission of the aforementioned crimes.
The sentence reading hearing was set for next Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 3:30 pm, at the facilities of the Colón Accusatory Penal System.
In this case, there are 18 open investigations and there are 20 identified victims, from interviews with more than 280 minors, which could increase with the processes that follow. In addition, there are at least 5 people charged.
