How to Create the Perfect Pink Smokey Eye According to Chanel Makeup Artist Nina Park

Zoë Kravitz's go-to makeup artist shares her tips on prepping skin, touching up, and creating an enviable rosy smokey eye.

Chanel makeup artist Nina Park isn't one to shy away from color. While some might pop open one of Chanel's Fall/Winter 2020 eyeshadow palettes and feel intimidated by the saturated pink and red shades, Park argues that the warm tones are actually quite wearable. "The beauty of the pinks and reds are how versatile the colors are, especially when mixed," says Park. "I love layering the colors until I find the right shade."

Park's mastery of layering color and playing with light-the beauty maven studied painting before moving to New York to pursue makeup artistry-has made her a go-to among celebs like Zoë Kravitz, Brie Larson, and Laura Harrier.

Here, the in-demand makeup artist shares her must-have products, best beauty tips, and shows L'OFFICIEL how to create a rosy smokey eye using Chanel's Fall/Winter 2020 collection.



You have amazing skin-what are the skincare steps you never skip?

Nina Park: Thank you so much. I never, ever skip exfoliation. I like to do a gentler exfoliation daily, like the CHANEL Sublimage La Lotion Suprême and CHANEL UV Essentiel SPF 50. Even if I’m cooped up indoors, I never skip this step.

How do you prep skin moving into the colder months?

NP: I prep by adding back moisture into the skin. I reach for toners, serums and moisturizers that have ultra-moisturizing components. The CHANEL Hydra Beauty Micro Sérum is a must for instant moisture.

Who are your biggest beauty inspirations?

NP: My mother! As a child, I would diligently watch her complete 10+ skin care step or apply lipstick. It has shaped me as a woman and makeup artist.

L'O: What are your favorite products in your kit?

NP: Lately, I’ve been favoring CHANEL Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Moisturizing Tint over others. It’s sheer, buildable and easy to use; perfect for now where no one wants to wear a full face of makeup. Other favorites are the CHANEL Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue lip colors. The colors can be worn in so many ways: super saturated, high-shine or subdued and soft. My favorite way to use them is by mixing the gloss and the color together to create a soft wash of color.

Are there any beauty trends you love right now?

NP: I guess the one noticeable trend I’m loving right now is self-care! People are putting so much time and love into their skin, body, hair, and nails and I’m all for it.

Can you walk us through your everyday makeup look?

NP: My everyday makeup look takes less than 5 minutes most days. I’ll usually start with a sheer tinted foundation like CHANEL Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint and blend in with my fingers. I’ll go in with spot treating any redness or blemishes with the CHANEL Le Correcteur de CHANEL. Next, I fill in my brows with an ashy-brown eyebrow pencil, then curl my lashes with the Surratt lash curler and put on 2-3 coats of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara. I love using the CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Sticks for a hint of blush on the cheeks. I line my lips with CHANEL Le Crayon Lèvres in Rose Naturel and apply CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Lip Balm in Warm. As a finishing touch, I’ll pop a little highlight using CHANEL Baume Essentiel in Sculpting on the tops of my cheeks.



How do you recommend touching up throughout the day?

NP: I always recommend not powdering too much at the start but instead using blotting papers or anti-shine skincare. Too much powder can make the skin look dry and more aged.


How has wearing face masks changed the way you do makeup?

NP: I’ve been focusing more on how to accentuate and refine the eyes without adding more products, such as tight-lining the eyes to make them pop. I’ve also been taking extra time to really groom and fill in the brows to make them look strong enough to frame a face but soft enough where it doesn’t overpower.

What is the best beauty advice that you have ever been given?

NP: Don’t sleep with your makeup on.
