The Gorgas Institute had requested for fiscal 2022 the sum of $40,675,757.00, while for fiscal 2021 the amount was $41,243,057.00.
The head of the Ministry of Health, Luis Sucre, reported that there will be a meeting with the director of the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies, Juan Miguel Pascale, with the aim of addressing the budget cut that was made to this entity, among Other themes.

He explained that it is necessary to review, plan and see what the necessary things really are and if there is a deficit, both officials will have to appeal to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) to replace the cut, "because neither Health nor Gorgas in the research part they can stay without doing their tasks that are extremely important."

“This worries us as well as everyone involved in health matters. Today we have a meeting with Dr. Pascale to discuss other issues, but this is going to be one of the items on the agenda where what We can say to the Gorgas staff is that we are going to see how we organize ourselves and in fact the needs that exist and that cannot be covered with what they have to do with the budget , it will be up to us as Minister of Health together with the director of the Memorial Gorgas then go to appeal to the MEF so that the needs are met and met, ”Sucre said.

It is worth mentioning the Gorgas Institute had requested for fiscal 2022 the sum of $40,675,757, while for fiscal 2021 the amount was $41,243,057.

For its part, the budget recommended by the MEF was $39,919,494, representing a variation of $756,263 in operation in relation to what had been requested by the entity, which expressed through its Twitter account that it was in accordance with this recommendation .

“The budget recommended by the MEF presents a variation of $756,263 in operation with respect to what is requested by the ICGES for the term 2022. The difference that occurs between the budget Law 2021 and the recommended 2022, corresponds mainly to the loan of the CABEI for the Campus, which due to a pandemic could not be awarded the work.
