Govt approves $40.5 million electricity subsidy for second half of 2020
The Cabinet Council approved $40.5 million to cover the electricity subsidy for the second half of 2020, for customers whose electricity consumption is up to 300 kWh per month.
The contribution is directed to the Tariff Stabilization Fund (FET) that benefits 845,442 clients of the electric power distribution companies EDEMET, EDECHI and ENSA, which constitute 71% of the clients.
It is also aimed at the Western Tariff Fund (FTO) that benefits 167,923 final clients of the EDECHI company in the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí and the Ngäbe Bugle Region, which represents 99% of its clients.
The National Public Services Authority (ASEP) announced in June 2020 that the electricity tariff would decrease for more than 1 million customers of ENSA, EDECHI and EDEMET in the second half of 2020 and that the Government would maintain the subsidy for the electricity tariff.
