The Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies announced that it will proceed to carry out a sampling to determine if there is the presence of the new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Panama.
It details that the sampling will begin this week and will take place in places where there has been an increase in the transmission of
COVID-19 .
According to the latest epidemiological report from the Ministry of Health (
Minsa), among the regions that maintain higher levels of contagion to date are: Arraiján, San Francisco, Juan Díaz, Tocumen, Belisario Frías, Vista Alegre, Río Abajo, Omar Torrijos, December 24, Mayor Díaz, Amelia Denis De Icaza, Metetí, Parque Lefevre, Don Bosco, Ernesto Córdoba Campos, Pacora, Las Cumbres, Juan Demostenes Arosemana, Rufina Alfaro and Betania, among others.
It is worth mentioning that recently, new mutations of the
coronavirus have been reported in the United Kingdom and South Africa that make it more contagious.
Given this situation, the authorities proceeded to establish the temporary suspension of entry into the national territory of people from these countries, due to the risk that this new variation of
COVID-19 could enter the country through the transport of people, either by air, land or sea, coming from different latitudes.
