Juan Miguel Pascale, director of the Gorgas Memorial Institute, confirmed that another 20 suspected cases of covid-19 reinfection are currently being investigated.
On February 20, this institute scientifically confirmed the first case of reinfection of this disease. It is about a 36-year-old man who lives in the city and whose second painting was milder.
“There are twenty probable cases, it is not so easy to be able to confirm them because we do not necessarily have good quality samples from all the subjects and they have to be samples of the first and second infection and these criteria are not easy. Second, these people must have been asymptomatic in the middle, and more than forty-five days of separation between one frame and another”, explained Pascale.
For her part, Sandra López, head of the
Gorgas virology research department, explained that these suspected cases of reinfection have been sent from hospitals such as the Oncology Institute and the Hospital Complex by doctors who monitor their patients.
López indicated that according to recommendations from international organizations, reinfection cases must have more than 90 days between the first and second infection.
