La sentencia quedó en firme luego que la Sala de lo Penal de la CSJ no admitió el recurso de Casación presentado por su defensa

Former mayor of Arraiján has been sentenced to seven years in prison for embezzlement

Former mayor Pedro Sánchez Moró will have to spend seven years in prison for embezzlement to the detriment of the Municipality of Arraiján.
The sentence was final after the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice did not admit the appeal for cassation presented by his defense.

This is an investigation that began in 2016 with an anonymous complaint, in which criminal conduct against the Public Administration was described in the Mayor's Office of Arraiján.

In the process, the Anticorruption Discharge Prosecutor's Office was able to prove with evidence that the former mayor and the former director of Human Resources of the same office, named players from the Santa Gema FC team whose president was Sánchez Moró on the municipal roster.

It was also known that the players received payment of their salary in the Municipality of Arraiján without any evidence that they were performing any function.

In addition, it was possible to verify that three people were contributing social security simultaneously in the institution and private companies.

The special audit report from the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, related to the management of Human Resources, revealed that this resulted an economic loss of over $71,000.
