The extension of the house arrest to Luis Cucalón was admitted due to chronic diseases certified by the IMELCF.
The Judicial Branch of Panama reported this Wednesday that the house arrest established for the former Director General of Revenue (DGI), Luis Cucalón, will be extended until December 30 of this year.
It indicates that this will be done after the Compliance Judge of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, Roberto Sánchez, agreed by means of Order No. 4,633, to the request presented by the private technical defense of Luis Cucalón, which was admitted on grounds of chronic diseases certified by the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMELCF), which state that they will not vary and that make the 69-year-old sanctioned vulnerable to the
COVID-19 disease.
“In addition to this, the Compliance Judge Roberto Sánchez, valued the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, regarding the diseases that can put a person at risk from
COVID-19; for this reason, it granted the extension of the house arrest, which was not objected by the Prosecutor's Office and the Complaint,” he explains.
Luis Cucalón was sentenced to 96 months in prison, from September 14, 2018, for the crimes of Embezzlement and Corruption of Public Servants, to the detriment of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
