Between June 2019 and August 2021, the Entrepreneur Padrino program has benefited 1,114 students , through scholarships for an amount of $1.1 million.

Through the Entrepreneur Godfather program, attached to the Ministry of Labor Development (Mides), students carry out internships while completing their studies, and receive a monthly salary of up to $270 that helps them cover their school expenses.

According to Mides, the program has had the support of some 299 companies.

So far in 2021, the province of Panama leads the majority of work internships in companies with 87 students, followed by Colón with 14 adolescents, Arraiján with 7, Coronado 3, Chepo with 1, as well as the province of Los Santos with a scholarship.

María Inés Castillo, Minister of Social Development, explained that the program has managed to insert 44 students into the labor market who, upon reaching their majority, have found a full-time job.

Castillo indicated that the program is aligned with the post-pandemic economic reactivation, it is also aimed at a population that does not have the necessary experience and that is relegated when competing for a vacancy.

The director of Padrino Empresarial, Adelina de Hernández, stated that the program is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals specifically 4, 8, 10 and 17, which motivates shift governments to establish alliances to achieve opportunities, where young people without work experience are included in the economic development of the country.

He announced that they are holding coordination meetings with the private sector to expand coverage.

Good to see the government coming around and teaching young people hands on experience. Basically the country has 2 groups of kids, laborers and those going to university, they need the 3rd type, trade students because surely there is something this country could manufacture to export besides bananas
