Director of Migration meets with attache from the US Department of Homeland Security
Both authorities, through this meeting, follow up on security issues in the region, amid the increase in irregular migrants.
The director of the National Migration Service, Samira Gozaine this afternoon held a meeting with Marlen Piñero, Regional Attaché of the Department of National Security of the United States Embassy in Panama.
The central theme of the meeting between the two authorities was to monitor security issues in the region.
It should be noted that at this time Panama, along with nine other countries in the region, are addressing the issue of irregular migration of people heading to the United States and Canada.
Among the issues that the foreign ministers and migration directors agreed to address as the main ones is the regulation of the migratory flow and the fight against organized crime, which is taking advantage of this phenomenon to traffic drugs and practice human trafficking.
