Diocese of David removes priest from office, while investigated for sex crimes

"We proceed, as a precautionary measure while the investigations last, to suspend Fr. Aristides from his position and pastoral ministry," the Diocese indicated.
The Diocese of David issued a statement on Tuesday in which it informs that priest Arístides Rodríguez Otero has been suspended from office while the investigations are being carried out for alleged libidinous acts against a minor.

"In accordance with the judgment of the Judge of Guarantees and according to the protocols established by the Catholic Church and collected by the Episcopal Conference of Panama in its document" Protecting our Treasure "from 2015, we proceed, as a precautionary measure while the investigations last, to suspend from the position and pastoral ministry to Fr. Aristides ”, indicated the Diocese of David.

It adds that the defense attorney appealed the provisional arrest measure issued on charges of "libidinous acts and obscene exhibitionism" to the detriment of a child under 5 years of age, against Arístides Rodríguez. The appeal hearing was set for April 21.

This priest is a member of the Diocese of David and Pastor of the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles de Gualaca.

On the other hand, the Diocese of David points out that “it is very painful that a member of the Clergy is allegedly involved in such acts, absolutely reprehensible”, before which he manifests and before which we express our zero tolerance. It hurts us in the depths of our hearts and our pastoral sensitivity, that the alleged victim is a minor, 5 years old”.
