Diasp approved 2,700 certificates of possession and license to carry weapons in 8 months

A total of 2,700 certificates of possession and license to carry weapons have been delivered by the Institutional Directorate for Public Security Affairs (Diasp), in the last eight months.
As detailed by Marcos Córdoba, director of the Ministry of Public Security, for the second half of 2020, 1,500 certificates of possession and license to carry firearms were issued; While so far in 2021, 1,200 certificates have been issued, between possession and carrying license.

Córdoba explained that it has invested in modernizing the computer system, in order to streamline the corresponding procedures in accordance with the provisions of the Law.

After the lifting of the ban on the import of weapons in January 2020, importing companies are bringing new weapons to the country, maintaining contact with gun houses and security agencies to keep the procedure updated in accordance with legal regulations, said the deputy commissioner Osvaldo Quintero, head of the Department of Weapons Permits at Diasp.

At the beginning of 2020, 57 imports of firearms, related materials, ammunition, explosives and pyrotechnics were approved.
