Court of Appeals confirms provisional detention of priest accused of child abuse

The alleged sexual abuse accusation to the priest happened in Gualaca of a child under 5 years of age.
The Public Ministry of Panama reported this Wednesday that the Chiriquí Regional Prosecutor's Office managed to get the Appeals Court to confirm a precautionary measure of provisional detention for a priest accused of sexual crimes to the detriment of a minor, an event that occurred in the district of Gualaca.

The 58-year-old priest's arrest was ordered on Monday, April 12, when a judge of guarantees of the Chiriquí Accusatory Penal System considered that the evidence presented by the Prosecutor's Office demonstrated two punishable acts, such as libidinous acts and obscene exhibitionism.

The sexual crimes allegedly by the religious occurred to the detriment of a child under 5 years of age in the Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles de Gualaca Parish, where the accused is a member of the Diocese of David and a parish priest.

It should be noted that the Diocese of David issued a statement on April 13 in which it reported that the priest Arístides Rodríguez Otero had been suspended from office while the investigations were being carried out for alleged libidinous acts against a minor.

While the investigation lasts, 6 months according to what is contemplated in the Accusatory Penal System, the priest will remain in detention.
