This rash of ongoing effete governmental measures is certainly costing Panama dearly. 20,000 Americans alone left between March and Aug. 2020. No word on how many Canadians, Europeans, or Panamanian and Latin American duals did so, plus others who have US visas that allowed them to flee on so-called "humanitarian" flights. In October 2020, after the airport reopened, 20,000 Central Americans left likely because of no jobs I took off in December, and pulled the CD that I had deposited at a local bank several years back. The bank rep tried her best to persuade me to leave the sizeable funds with them but I never looked back. As I was getting ready to leave, Panamanians were telling me that the set currently in power is many times worse than Noriega and his goons. Chatting recently with a Dominican lady in Miami, who has a daughter living in Panama, she said that the country has lost its middle class. Quite a shame, really. Panama was lovely until this. The new investment visa rules that will come into force in 2023 and require many times the funds of years past are amusing. People are on the move alright: but they're moving away from the kind of authoritarian showmanship in place in Panama since last year. Good luck to all the North American and European expats who remain. Still love the country and its people, but pass on the rest.

What will be funny is when they finally admit that the masks were really a stupid idea and you don't have to wear them anymore. 1 day you needed them to shop and the next day you do not.

Let's sustain the insanity a little longer and see if we can add a couple more percentage points to the biggest economic collapse in history. Maybe we can squeeze a few extra bankruptcies and suicides in there as well before March 6.
