Carla García is appointed as the new governor of the province of Panama
After Judy Meana confirmed her resignation to the position of governor of Panama on Monday, hours later the appointment of Carla García to this position was confirmed.
The Minister of Government Janaina Tewaney signed the appointment in the presence of the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo.
García is a lawyer and real estate broker by profession and ran in the 2019 elections for deputy of the 8-7 circuit for the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD).
The new governor is the daughter of the Vice Minister of the Presidency, Carlos García Molino.
It should be noted that this is the third change that has occurred in the Government of Panama, since the Government of President Laurentino Cortizo was elected in May 2019; the first governor to be appointed was Sheyla Grajales; who resigned to briefly assume the Ministry of Security; after this Judy Meana was appointed and now the position falls to Garcia.
According to article 252 of the Constitution of Panama, in each province there will be a Governor of free appointment and removal from the Executive Branch, who will be its representative in his / her constituency. Each governor will have an alternate appointed by the Executive Branch. The Law will determine the functions and duties of the Governors.
