Cabinet approves $ 30.5 million in electricity subsidy
The Cabinet Council authorized, this Wednesday, August 4, the incorporation of $ 30.5 million to the Rate Stabilization Fund (FET) as payment for the electricity subsidy of almost one million customers of the country's distribution companies.
This subsidy is for customers who consumed up to 300 kWh during the first half of this year, a measure that is part of the economic mitigation mechanisms established in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, reported the Presidency of the Republic.
Through Resolution No. 87-21 $ 22 million 176 thousand 806 are incorporated into the FTE to benefit more than 800 thousand customers of electricity distribution companies for the contributions granted to those who have a Simple Low Voltage rate and consumption up to 300 kWh per month during the first half of this year.
With this aid canceled by the National Government, each consumer benefits from a discount between 20 and 24 percent of their actual electricity consumption, explains the Presidency.
Resolution No. 88-21 was also endorsed, which authorizes the contribution in the amount of 8 million 366 thousand 337 to the Western Tariff Fund to replace the Empresa de Distribución Eléctrica Chiriquí, SA (Edechi), for the rate applied to its end customers and residents of Almirante, Guabito, Las Tablas, Changuinola and surrounding areas during the first half of this year.
With this last contribution, 176 thousand clients from Bocas del Toro and nearby areas benefit from this support to pay for the energy they have already consumed in the indicated time.
The electricity subsidy was established in April 2020 as a result of the new coronavirus pandemic that has already been going on for 17 months.
