The blended classes begin in official and private educational centers with low enrollment.
As of this Monday, May 31, the Ministry of Education of Panama (Meduca) will start blended classes in a total of 78 educational centers.
These are official and private schools with low enrollment that are located in educational regions where there is a low incidence of
COVID-19 cases.
The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, explained that the start of blended classes in these educational centers will impact an approximate 8,700 students and 625 teachers nationwide.
In the list established by the Meduca include schools in the region of Cocle, Colon, the Embera, Ngäbe-Bugle, Darien, Herrera, Los Santos, Panama Centro, Panama East, West and Veraguas Panama.
It is worth mentioning that initially Meduca had established the start of blended classes in 100 educational centers, however, based on an observation from the Ministry of Health (
Minsa), it was decided to postpone this start in 22 schools located in the sectors of Pacora, Juan Díaz, Rufina Alfaro, Veracruz and San Francisco, due to an increase in
coronavirus cases.
The Executive Decree No. 435 establishing the conditions to be met by schools for the gradual return indicates that blended learning classes will gradually progressive, flexible and secure, in accordance with aspects of biosafety of each center and taking into account the 2021 school year guidelines.
