Attorney General travels to Darien to receive complaints from migrants
The visit of the Attorney General, Javier Caraballo to Bajo Chiquito follows complaints of abuse of migrants.
The attorney general of the Nation in charge, Javier Caraballo, traveled to the Bajo Chiquito community, in the Darien province, to receive complaints from migrants, the Public Ministry (MP) reported.
The MP indicated that the objective of the visit to Bajo Chiquito is to identify possible crime victims and advance the investigations.
On September 4, a team of prosecutors also carried out an ocular inspection of migrant shelters in Darien.
The proceedings are carried out after a report by the Commission for Women, Children, Youth and the Family of the National Assembly denounced abuses against migrants in Darien.
In the Commission, a video was presented that collected the testimonies of the migrants who were in Darien and who recounted all the moors that they suffered during their passage through the border between Panama and Colombia.
This week the Ombudsman, Eduardo Leblanc, also traveled to Bajo Chiquito to follow up on reports of abuse of migrants.
